Like the tree above, Christmas 2020 feels like a blurry, unfocused thing to me. As people around the world are adjusting to not being able to spend the time with family on Christmas Day they had been hanging out for, here in New Zealand, we are able to mingle and spend as much time with those people (the ones in the country at least) as we need or want to.
Lack of funds and uncertainty about the future have meant not being able to confidently spend on gifts or the other extras that occur at this time of year. We are lucky though to have enough for getting through the season, and still being able to enjoy spending time with family.
But I have to say, I am looking forward to getting past Christmas Day and into the things that need to happen in January for us. Change is in the air and I am keen to press the fast forward button to the point where we are moved to a new home and workspace, fully unpacked and settling into a new rhythm of home, work and life in general.
I have no expectations that 2021 will be dramatically different from 2020 for many in the world, and there are no magical wands to wave that will suddenly erase everything we have gone through this last year, but it does feel as if the ‘holding your breath for 9 months’ thing will finally come to an end and we can start to breathe normally again.
I hope this is the case for others in similar situations also - that you can find something to hang your hat on in the next few months, something concrete to look forward to and know that it will make things better in your life and the lives of those around you.
As vaccinations roll out globally, the fear and anxiety triggered by the risk of Covid will hopefully start to decrease and the focus will shift onto what ongoing steps need to be taken to support people financially and in a sustainable way going forward.
I have enjoyed working with my clients this year and providing them with support, strategy, brainstorming ideas and more - and I look forward to a lot more of that in 2021. I love getting to know business owners/operators and discovering the skills and IP they have to offer the world.
So I will wrap up for the year with a final set of my sincerest best wishes for a Happy Christmas, a safe New Year and an opportunity filled 2021.
